With the beginning of spring, changes in Nordic Combined coaching staff continue. The Polish Ski Federation announced it will not be extending the contract with German Danny Winkelmann, who had been in charge of the team for the past two years.

Under Winkelmann’s leadership, especially Szczepan Kupczak achieved career best results, and last winter was one of the best in recent years. The team consisting of Adam Cieslar, Paweł Twardosz, Szczepan Kupczak and Paweł Slowiok took the eighth place in the team competition at the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships in Seefeld, and the duo of Kupczak and Slowiok finished the Team Spring also in eighth position.

PZN would like to thank Danny Winkelmann for his contribution to the development of Nordic Combined in Poland and the successes of the team in the last two seasons.

“First of all, I would like to thank the Polish Ski Federation and Adamy Malysz for giving me this chance to years ago and also Stefan Horngacher and his ski jumping colleagues who were very supportive of my work”, Winkelmann said. “It was a really intense time in which I tried to establish a basic order and structure in many areas. I have been able to lay the foundations, now others can build on this. I met many friendly and engaged people and especially the athletes and my service and coaching team became near and dear to me. It was an honour to work as their coach.”

Looking to the future, Winkelmann is aiming for another coaching position. “I am a coach with lot of joy, passion and devotion and passion and I would like to continue in such a position. I will evaluate the situation now and will see what the future might bring.”
