FIS Cups in Szczyrk

Men's and women's FIS Cup competitions were held this weekend in Szczyrk, Poland.

Ski jumpers of Austria took both wins in the men's competitions there on the HS 104 hill. On Saturday, Niklas Bachlinger, the 2021 Junior World Champion, claimed the victory with jumps of 95.5 m and 104 m and a score of 263.5 points, narrowly ahead of his teammate Janni Reisenauer, who came in just 0.5 points behind the winner with 96.5 m and 104.5 m. The third place went to Rok Oblak of Slovenia with 97.5 m and 100 m and a total of 256.7 points.

The fight for the win was then even closer on Sunday. In the end, Austria's Maximilian Lienher won with jumps of 107.5 m and 98 m and 284.9 points. Only 0.4 points behind him, Giovanni Bresadola of Italy finished second with 105.5 m and 100.5 m. Niklas Bachlinger came in third this time with 105 m and 100 m and 284.4 points.

In Saturday's women's competition, the win also went to an athlete from Austria. Hannah Wiegele secured a clear win with her jumps of 90.5 m and 100 m and 240.9 points. Canada's Abigail Strate came in second with 96 m and 98.5 m and 230.7 points, local hero Nicole Konderla was third, only 0.2 points behind the Canadian, with 92.5 m and 98 m.

Only 14-year-old Slovenian Ajda Kosnjek celebrated her first win in only her second FIS Cup competition. She was the best on Sunday with 97 m and 96.5 m and 258.7 points. Behind the young winner, Abigail Strate (101.5 m and 98 m; 255.0 points) and Nicole Konderla (98.5 m and 96.5 m; 254.6 points) in second and third place were able to repeat their results from the day before.

Einsiedeln (SUI) will host the next FIS Cup event on the upcoming weekend.
