Monday Mix - May 20, 2019

May 20, 2019·Snowboard Park & Pipe
Anna Gasser (AUT)

It's Monday and we're back with another addition of the Mix! This week we'll be looking at the most recent groundbreaking accomplishment from Austria's Anna Gasser, catching up with the US freestyle team at their spring camp in Mammoth Mountain, chasing a little May powder with some lucky riders in Europe, and more...

Another first for Gasser

We'll start things off with the latest from Gasser. Last fall the 27-year-old became the first female snowboarder to a land a triple cork, and 11 days ago in Obergurgl she added another first to her long list by stomping a double cork 1260:

After fracturing her ankle at the Laax Open slopestyle World Cup back in January it appear Gasser is back up to speed and already looking forward to next season on the competition circuit.

"I am happy to be back in full strength," said Gasser, via her sponsor Burton Snowboards, "I’ve had this trick in mind for a long time. While being grounded, the desire to try it got stronger and stronger. I had visualized the movements in my head hundreds of times before actually trying it on snow. My goal is to include the cab double cork 1260 in my contests runs – slopestyle as well as big air – for next season!“

Sadowski-Synnott honoured in New Zealand

Speaking of ladies' riders making waves, New Zealand's Zoi Sadowski-Synnott was feted in a big way this past week at the Otago Sports Awards in Dunedin, where she was named the Sportswoman of the Year and the Supreme Winner - the second-straight year she has claimed both titles.

US, Japanese freestyle snowboard teams hold spring camp at snowy Mammoth

While the calander assures us it is in fact spring, it seems someone forgot to tell the weather gods at Mammoth Mountain, as the California resort continues to recieve heavy snow well into May...

Is it really May?😳😍 @yukie_ueda . . . . @mammothmountain #powdersnow

Despite the occasional blizzard, members of the US and Japanese teams (and others) are on hand sessioning Mammoth's world-class park and pipe facilities, stacking clips and learning new tricks ahead of the 2019/20 competition season...

Snow continues to hammer parts of the Alps

Speaking of late-season snowstorms, low temperatures and fresh snow have lead to at least one Austrian resort to reopen their lifts for any pow-chasers who haven't had their fill of turns yet this season. Austria's own Alexander Payer was on site in Kaunertaler this past weekend and judging from his instagram documentation the condititions were epic...

✳️Time for Powder✳️ I didn't expect so much snow middle of May here in #tyrol but right now the Austrian glaciers are serving perfect wintersport conditions. @kaunertalergletscher @kitzsteinhorn_official and @stubai_glacier are still open and waiting for you. #endlesswinter . #alexchecked #snowboard #freeride #powder #outdoor #fluffysnow #frontside #freestyle #snowboardracing #snowboardskills #snowboardtheworld #snowboarding4life #kelag #pureathlet #allineedtea #mittelkärnten #kärnten #backhome #summeriscalling #travellife #travel #outdoorfun #travelhome . 📷 By @allineedtea 💪

Meanwhile, Payer's compatriot and 2018/19 SBX crystal globe winner Alessandro Haemmerle also looked to be enjoying some freshies in recent days...

Heute, 15.5, auf dem Gletscher: frischer Schnee und Temperaturen unter 0 Grad. Nicht gerade übliche Bedingungen, aber mir gefällts 😉😁 Schon bereit für Sommer?😏

New record set for running London marathon in snowboard gear

That's right, the new benchmark for running all 42.2 kms of a marathon in full snowboard gear was set at the London marathon last weekend by 44-year-old James Williams, with a time of 5:21.50 - 24 minutes quicker than the previous mark for such an attempt. James, along with his team from Lymm Runners, were able to raise more than £30,000 for charity with their efforts.

Lymm runners in our #VLM2019 tops and medals 🏅 I absolutely love being part of this running club. The support and passion for running is just amazing! #londonmarathon2019 #londonmarathon #lymmrunners #runner #running #IMoveMe #runchat #everybodysrace2019 #runnersofinstagram

That's it for now. Enjoy your week!
