Konstantin Schad (GER) announces retirement - #DankeKonsti

After almost two decades as professional snowboard cross athlete, 32-year-old Konstantin Schad decided to end his career and to step into a new future.

“The final decision to end my career came through my family. When kids entire into your life, it is something really emotional and simply changes everything”, the father of two says. “It has been always clear to me that after all these years “on the road”, I want to be there for my kids. Of course, I would love to continue snowboarding, but priorities simply have changed”, Schad contines.

Some health issues also added to the decision to retire. After a broken tailbone and a slipped disc, Schad is “happy to not have to make squads with 150 kilos on my back anymore”.

Looking back on his career, Schad made his World Cup debut in February 2007, had had 75 World Cup starts, earned 3 podiums and 1 victory. He competed at the 2010, 2014 and 2018 Olympic Winter Games for Germany and won the X-Games bronze medal twice in 2014 and 2016. Schad also became German champion three times in a row and won two SBX Team World Cup competitions together with Paul Berg.

Schad has also been the Chairman of the FIS Athletes’s Commission since 2017, where he was a representative for Snowboard.

Although Schad will no longer be an active athlete for Snowboard Germany, he will remain as an honorary member of the executive committee for the German federation.
