Erzurum is the largest city and centre of the Erzurum province in the Eastern part of Turkey. Located at about 2000 metres above sea level, it is known for its long and very cold winter months with temperatures well below the -10 °C range.The Eastern Anatolian city with its 250.000 inhabitants already hosted the 2011 Winter Universiade and the 2012 FIS Nordic Junior World Championshios

Erzurum offers some of Turkey's best winter sports facilities like the newly constructed Kiremitlik Tepe jumping centre with a HS140 large hill and a HS109 normal hill. The cross-country races are conducted in the Kandilli Nordic Ski Center which is located about 37 km away from Erzurum.
