Three brothers, one shared podium for the Carrick-Smiths

Coronet Peak, New Zealand – 2 September 2026: The results board at Coronet Peak told an unusual story on Wednesday. At the top of the men’s Slalom classification were three names from the same family: Luca Carrick-Smith in first, Zak Carrick-Smith in second and Freddy Carrick-Smith in third.

It is a result rarely seen in ski racing: three brothers taking all three places on the same FIS podium. And there is another layer to the story – Zak and Freddy are twins, with Luca as their older brother. The latter set the fastest combined time of 1:23.32, while Zak finished 1.31 seconds behind and Freddy 1.80 seconds back. Adding another twist to the result, the twins were inseparable in the second run as both clocked in at 44.98s in the final run for the podium.

For the three British racers, racing alongside each other is nothing new. They have progressed through the same system and now compete internationally, each building their own path through the sport.

Freddy arrives in New Zealand following a strong 2025/26 season, during which he took silver in slalom at the FIS Alpine Junior World Ski Championships in Narvik. Luca and Zak have likewise continued to gain experience at international and national level.

At Coronet Peak, their individual progress came together in a result that will be difficult to replicate: three brothers, racing on the same course, separated by less than two seconds.
