It is with great sadness that FIS learned of the passing of Giuliana Chenal Minuzzo on Wednesday, 11th November.
Giuliana Chenal Minuzzo died at the age of 88; she was the first Italian woman to win a medal at the Winter Olympics, winning bronze in the women's downhill at the 1952 Oslo Winter Olympics. At the following Olympic Winter Games in Cortina d'Ampezzo in 1956, she was the first woman in history to take the Olympic oath. Together with Celina Seghi and Zeno Colò, she is considered one of the greatest Alpine Skiing champions in the post-war period.
FIS would like to offer its deepest condolences to Giuliana Minuzzo’s family, friends and loved ones, as well as to the Italian Ski Federation.
