Marco Schwarz out for 6 weeks due to an ankle injury

Austrian skier, Marco Schwarz, tore his front syndesmosis ligament in his left ankle whilst training in Resterhöhe on Wednesday. Schwarz was examined at the Kitzbühel Health centre where the attending physician, Thomas Gstrein, stated, “It is important that Marco does not have to undergo an operation. If the therapy goes without any problems, he will be able to return to ski training in six weeks.”
After Schwarz’s examination, he was quoted saying, “that is luck in misfortune. I threaded and then it ate my ski. That went stupid. Now I’ll start rehabilitation and therapy right away and see that I can get back to the ski circuit as quickly as possible.”
Having won the Slalom Crystal Globe last season, claiming seven podium finishes, with two wins, claiming a gold and bronze medal at the 2021 FIS World Ski Championships, Schwarz was looking to be a strong force coming into the new World Cup season. His World Cup journey already started two weeks ago where he placed 13th in GS in Sölden, Austria. Whilst six weeks is a substantial amount of time, Schwarz can start his rehab immediately due to not needing a surgery. If all goes smoothly, we should see his return to the snow by late December.
