A technical track awaited the Sprint athletes in Lahti. Ladies and men both had to fight hard for the spots on the podium. And for many athletes, their results decide about their participation at the upcoming FIS World Ski Championships in Seefeld.
Maiken Caspersen Falla as well as Johannes Høsflot Klæbo are surely no unknown names on the top of the podium. Still, their win today once again demanded full focus and determination all the way to the last stretch of the final heat.
The strategy for Maiken Caspersen Falla speeded up the heats in order to keep her pole position during the quarterfinals. At the semi-finals and finals, she was tackled by Sophie Caldwell (USA) and Maja Dahlqvist (SWE), who ended up on the 2nd - respectively 3rd place. Also Sandra Ringwald from Germany (4th) and Mari Eide from Norway (5th) followed their strategy but had to line up behind the fast paced podium.
When Johannes Høsflot Klæbo fights for a sprint victory, Federico Pellegrino can usually be found right on his side along the track. The Italian was very satisfied with his skis today. After the race, he explained that he trained a little too much in regard to the World Championships but still managed to keep up with his fellow competitor. "Today I beat everybody but one and I am quite happy with this result", Federico Pellegrino stated after the race.
The third place was taken by Finn Hågen Krogh from Norway. He did not have an easy start in the final heat but was really satisfied with his progress during the race - and of course with ending up on the podium.
