Lampic triumphs again in Val di Fiemme Classic Sprint

The courses of Val di Fiemme were proven to be a spectacular setting for Classic races as it was the place for today's Sprint showdown and the 6th stage of this years Tour de Ski. Anamarija Lampic from Slovenia raced to her back to back victory after the Sprint in Lenzerheide earlier this Tour.
The final heat of the women consisted of five different nations whereas USA was represented by Jessie Diggins and Sadie Maubet Bjornsen. Also local Italian skier Lucia Scardoni ensured herself a spot in the top-6 skiers. Russian Natalia Nepryaeva struggled to find her position in the first stretch right after the start. As she skied between the tracks she caught a pole of one of the contenders and thus crashed.
Yesterdays 10km C winner, Astrid Uhrenholdt Jacobsen took over the lead for the group with Sadie Maubet Bjornsen following closely before Lucia Scardoni. Jessie Diggins managed to sprint ahead of Scardoni in the final uphill. The two Americans went in the lead with Jacobsen but Anamarija Lampic benefitted from fantastic skis and powerfully pushed herself to the top position in the final stretch before the finish line, crossing it +0.22 before Jacobsen and +0.28 before Diggins.
Lampic keeps the red point standing leader bib for tomorrows competition up to Alpe Cermis. The Overall leader of the Tour de Ski remains Therese Johaug who raced to the 11th position today. This ensures Therese a 3 second lead before Astrid Uhrenholdt and 14 seconds before Natalia Nepryaeva. Last years winner of the Tour de Ski, Ingvild Flugstad Østberg is 23 seconds behind Therese Johaug. After todays competition, she was honored for her 250th World Cup start.

„I didn't imagine before the tour that I was so good with a double win. Yesterday was a bit a hard day but the Tour de Ski got me.“
„For sure the wins mean a lot for me and also for Slovenia as Cross-Country skiing is not on the top so I hope that will change."
„Tomorrow I just need to survive until the uphill and then I will go my own tempo.“
Astrid Uhrenholdt Jacobsen (NOR):
"For tomorrow I think it will be a hard fight - mostly with myself."
"As we go towards the end of the tour every day is a bit more unpredictable."
"I think to have a diversity of nations and athletes on the podium that’s what the people have been waiting for. I come from a strong nation that usually has athletes on the podium but in the last couple of days some other skiers with other qualities benefitted so I think that is good for everyone to see that this is still possible.“
Jessie Diggins (USA):
„For me it is just nice to have such a good day today. It was just a tough tour with many ups and downs and some struggles and so when having a good day you just have to keep believing that you can do it. Today it felt really awesome to have that confidence and good skis. So I think what I will do for tomorrow is just eat and sleep enough today and then go as hard as you can tomorrow, that’s about it.“
