Federico Pellegrino (ITA) was a league of his own during the Sprint F in Davos. The road back to the World Cup stage was hindered by an injury in summer. However the Italian Sprint expert was very pleased with the recovery and stated after his victory: "I needed this. I knew today that I only had one position that I wanted to reach and this was the victory. I was looking forward to be back in Davos. It was my 12th time and I think here the real values of the athletes are shown." With this strong performance, Federico Pellegrino is taking the lead in the Sprint World Cup ranking.

In the quarter finals, Pellegrino was chased by French sprint expert Lucas Chanavat but the game changed as Chanavat fell when heading into the second lap. From then only Alexander Bolshunov (RUS) manged to keep up with the pace of the Italian and got rewarded with the final second rank. Claiming the yellow bib, Alexander Bolshunov takes over the lead in the Overall World Cup ranking. Andrew Young (GBR) who headed into the finals in the "lucky looser" position, kept his eyes on the heels of Bolshunov and took the remaining spot on the podium.

The surprise of the day in the mens competition was surely young Valerio Grond from Switzerland. The 20 year-old vice-Junior World Champion of Oberwiesenthal raced to the finals in his first ever World Cup appearance.
