Sundling first Cross-Country World Champion of Oberstdorf 2021

The first set of medals of the Cross-Country races at the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships in Oberstdorf are delivered. Jonna Sundling from Sweden crossed the finish line first, taking a clear victory before the defending World Champion Maiken Caspersen Falla from Norway and Anamarija Lampic from Slovenia.
For the 26 year-old Jonna Sundling it was only the second start at in a event of the World Championships. After missing the podium in the Sprint of Seefeld by only 0.3 seconds, Sundling made up with firm and clean skiing throughout the heats. Despite the difficulties with warm weather and soft course track, Sundling kept her focus and was stoked about her achievement after the finish.
With her second place, Maiken Caspersen Falla becomes the most decorated female Sprinter at FIS Nordic World Ski Championships. “I think my first World Championship and Olympic medals were the most overwhelming results but especially this year is special to me because I went into these World Championships with little international competitions before Christmas. I was very happy to get the medal today, and even with a photo finish against Anamarija Lampic. It has not been many times that I win a photo finish so this is an additional success for me!”
For Anamarija Lampic, winner of this seasons Sprint World Cup globe, todays success was the long lasted podium spot on one of the worlds largest sporting stages. With dedication and a strong focus, Lampic reached her goals for the season and will now undergo preparation for the upcoming Team sprint. “It feels amazing and I am happy to win my bronze medal. I could show that I am one of the best sprinters in the world. I am the second Slovenian after Petra Majdic to win a World Championships medal and it is very special for me as she has always been my idol so I would say it is a very special day for Slovenia.”
