Final Sprint day of the season concludes in Falun

Falun is the place to be for the FIS Cross-Country World Cup finals 2021/22. Three days of events started off with todays Sprint in Classic technique.
Women's Sprint C
As Jonna Sundling had to deal with a injured thumb at the beginning of the season, it took a while for her to come back on the World Cup stage. However, since her recovery - the 27 year-old reported back in top shape and showed her dominance in todays Sprint. From qualification to the finals; Jonna remained ahead of her contenders and finishes her Sprint season with a victory.
Already before the first climb in the finals, Sundling had advanced ahead of her contenders. Only last years Sprint Champion, Anamarija Lampic managed to stay on her heels for the first part. For the third place, Maja Dahlqvist, Julia Kern and Nadine Fähndrich went into a final sprint before the finish line.
Maja Dahlqvist, who had already ensured herself the Sprint globe thanks to her series of Sprint victories throughout the season, took the last remaining spot on the podium before Julia Kern and Fähndrich.
Men's Sprint C
For Richard Jouve, today's Sprint was about claiming a victory. With the win, the Frenchman could overtake Johannes Høsflot Klæbo in the latest Sprint World Cup standing and claim the Sprint crystal globe for France for the first time.
The plan almost came to a fall in the quarter finals, when Jouve lost balance and fell on a climb. The 27 year-old had to fight back into position to advance into the semi finals. In the finals, Richard Jouve put the hammer down and paced over the finish line in first position, not only winning todays final Sprint in Classic technique - but also the Sprint globe of the season 2021/22.
After setting the fastest time in the prologue, it was set to become a successful day for Joni Mäki. In second place the Finn set his career milestone with his maiden individual World Cup podium. With Lucas Chanavat, the Sprint podium was completed.
Sprint World Cup winner Women
Maja Dahlqvist had ensured herself the Sprint globe ahead of the race. In her break through season, the Swede had showed her talents on the World Cup stage and claimed one victory after the other in the past four months and well earned her crystal globe.
The spots for the second and third places remained open until todays results. With a well earned second place, Anamarija Lampic takes home the silver medal before Jonna Sundling, who - despite her injury - manages to claim the third overall place
Sprint World Cup winner Men
Richard Jouve was the man of the day to be celebrated. With his victory, he claims the first Sprint globe ever for France. In addition, the 27 year-old is sharing the podium with his team colleague Lucas Chanavat, who finished third in the overall standing. With his victory in the Sprint in Classic technique, Jouve advanced ahead of Johannes Høsflot Klæbo, who was not present due to a recovery of a Covid-19 infection. Therefore the 25 year old Norwegian had to take in the second position in the overall ranking.
