FIS Cross-Country calendar updates confirmed

After the FIS Cross-Country committee meetings in May, the FIS Council has now not only approved the calendar for the upcoming season, but also the calendar frame for the long-term planning.

News around the upcoming season schedule 2021/22

Falun (SWE) schedule set
After arranging one additional competition day, the Swedish Ski Federation together with the organizer of the "Svenska Skidspelen" have conducted a feasibility study on the suggested formats. With the now approved Mixed Relay (4x5km) as well as a Mixed Teamsprint on the same day, Sunday, 13th March 2021 will mark a world premiere in the history of Cross-Country skiing with two mixed events on the same day.

Lenght of Tour de Ski adapted to meet the needs of athletes
The prestigious Tour de Ski will visit Lenzerheide (SUI), Oberstdorf (GER) and Val di Fiemme (ITA). However, as the season focus will be set around the Olympic Winter Games, the Tour de Ski schedule was adapted in order to meet the needs of atheltes and to ensure their possibility to participate.

Long-term calendar frame
In order to optimize planning, travel schedule and include the needs of athletes and teams as well as other stakeholders, the long-term calendar frame was established on the following guidelines:

• Season starts last weekend of November and ends after the third weekend of March.

• The calendar consists of 5 blocks including free weekends.

• The organizing nations and venues will be selected in order to reduce travels and optimize logistics.

Following those principles, the long-term calendar will be used as a base for National Ski Associations to plan the event schedules together with their organizers. Upon their applications, the calendar will be established together with the FIS.
