As announced at the FIS Autumn meetings in Zürich on Friday, 30th September, Pierre Mignerey will leave FIS and his position as the FIS Cross-Country Race Director as of this autumn. The former Race Director Assistant, Michal Lamplot is set to be the new FIS Cross-Country Race Director and is transitioning into the role already.

In 2012, Mignerey took over the leading position at FIS Cross-Country from Jürg Capol, after having spent two years along the World Cup for FIS already. With his background as a former head coach of the French national team, he brought valuable inputs and started leading the Cross-Country community in a very practical and professional way.

With a continuously close connection to teams, officials, NSA’s, organizers and the full Cross-Country community, Pierre has always been a pivotal part of the development of the sport.

In the position of Race Director, the task of finding the balance between keeping traditions of the discipline and introducing change is a constant companion.

Under his leadership, this task has been implemented at every level, from professionalizing jury work and education to optimizing the calendar planning and taking responsibility towards a more sustainable structure, to only name a few.

“The field of work in such a position is extremely divers and that is what I always saw as a big advantage. In one way, it broadens the knowledge and on the other hand, it was my job to pull all the strings together to make development of the sport possible," says Pierre.

Therefore, I am grateful to have been working along with friends rather than strangers. I believe that this is also what the Cross-Country community has always been about."Pierre Mignerey

"Of course, being able to experience milestones of athletes’ achievements or seeing teams develop their possibilities has been fantastic highlights. The work is very complex and the way I approached the organization has surely changed throughout the years. Therefore, I am grateful to have been working along with friends rather than strangers. I believe that this is also what the Cross-Country community has always been about.

Together, we achieved great developments and can be proud of where we are today," concluded the former Race Director his work and states: "As I continue to work in the sport sector, I know that my path with the FIS Cross-Country family will cross again. For now, I want to thank everyone that helped paving the way and that made those past 10 years exceptional.”
