On the final day of the past World Cup season, French National Cross-Country ski team member Valentin Chauvin published a post on Instagram, explaining why he had not set foot on the World Cup stage throughout the entire winter.

“I think the body spoke instead of the head.”

“It's been a few years since I put too much stress on myself, too many sleepless nights. Lack of sleep gradually "kills" the body but also kills the motivation, the mood, the passion and when the body is your working tool, it doesn't forgive,” the French professional felt like he was burnt out.

Thus, he wisely took the right decision – despite Olympic Games knocking on the door.

Now, the 26 year-old had taken months off to recover and orientate where he is at in his career, and has announced to step back from professional skiing.

“This decision did not come easy and required a lot of energy and long moments to reflect since this spring,” he publishes online.

2 World Championship starts, 50 individual World Cup starts plus 9 World Cup Team events, a 10th place in the Sprint Overall ranking in 2021 as well as the French Sprint title in 2021 are Valentin’s latest great achievements on the largest sporting stages.

Thank you Valentin, for being a great member of the World Cup family. We wish you all the best for new ideas, projects and whatever the next chapter may bring.
