Nekrasova (RUS) and Hope (NOR) win 5/10km at JWSC 2018
 Press release from

Ulrichen, January 30, 2018 - At the Junior World Ski Championships for women (5 km) and men (10 km) in classic technique went to Russian Polina Nekrasova and the Norwegian Jon Rolf Skamo Hope. The Russian left behind her direct competitors Hailey Swirbul (USA) and Anita Korva (FIN) by 14.4 and 25.4 seconds, respectively.

In the men's race, 20-year-old Norwegian Hope took the irresistible final sprint to the top of the standings, taking the silver medalist Russian Sergey Ardashev by 9 seconds and the bronze medalist Norwegian Joergen Lippert 27.9 seconds.

The Norwegians were among the big losers in the women's competition. Kristine Stavaas Skistad was fifth-placed and lost over 30 seconds to the new World Champion from Russia. The Swedes could not influence the medals either.

The men's race was very early on a Norwegian-Russian duel. Sergey Ardashev was beaten by the mighty Jon Rolf Skamo Hope. "I started rather slowly and was able to mobilize my efforts at the end," said the new World Champion.

The final ranking presents itself with no less than four Norwegians among the Top 5. After the sprint race, Joergen Lippert has now won his second World Championship medal during the Championships.
The U23 athletes will continue tomorrow with 10/15 km interval start competitions in classic technique.
