Unfortunately, on Tuesday it has been announced that the Audi FIS Ski Cross World Cup competitions in Feldberg (GER) have been cancelled.

Hochschwarzwald Tourismus, together with the German Skiing Association (DSV) and the Organizing Committee had tried everything possible to hold the back-to-back World Cup competitions for ski cross athletes scheduled for Feb 07-09.

But temperatures in the past few weeks were not really winter-friendly in the Schwarzwald region. The high temperatures did not allow for natural snow fall, nor for snow production. Therefore, the combination of lack of snow, high temperatures and warm weather forecast for the next feew days, forced the Organizer together with FIS and DSV to cancel the scheduled World Cup events.

For the LOC it is the second World Cup event weekend in a row that had to be cancelled this season for the same reasons, as one week earlier, it had been announced that the FIS Snowboard Cross World Cup had to be cancelled.

While the resort is open to tourists and allows for recreational skiing with the snow amount of approximately 20cm, unfortunately these amounts are not enough to build a demanding and challenging World Cup ski cross course.

It is the first time that the Feldberg events have to be cancelled due to the mentioned circumstances. The organizers managed to host already four highly successful competitions in the past, the last having been in February 2019 with perfect conditions and a great staged event.

OC president Thorsten Rudolph commented: “We were really looking forward to hold two successful World Cup event-weekends here in Feldberg. In the past we had super exciting competitions in front of an amazing crowd, which lead to a great marketing effect thanks to the live TV-figures and the outstanding media reach. We hope to have better weather conditions again next year, where we are aiming to continue the great success of the event and to present great World Cup requirements to the athletes and the fans of winter sports. I especially want to thank all the volunteers who have been working so hard for months in preparation of this event.”

“It is too bad that conditions will not allow for our World Cup Tour to stop in Feldberg this year, because the whole event is a great show with amazing crowds in the finish generating a very special atmosphere. I would like to thank the whole LOC for their tremendous efforts and let’s hope for some more favourable weather next year,” JP Baralo (FIS Ski & Snowboard Cross Race Director) says.

FIS will communicate any possible replacement for the competitions at a later time.
