Athletes' Health Unit

The Athletes Health Unit (AHU) is a recently established and growing department anchored in the FIS organizational structure that serves as a central point of contact and coordination for health-related topics in all FIS sports.

Vision & Mission
The AHU is based on the idea of working together with all stakeholders involved to provide a framework which allows FIS-Athletes for long-term performance through physical and mental health.

Exploring individual performance capabilities is a balancing act and requires optimal health and risk management.

Comprehensive strategies and structures with corresponding work processes, appropriate to the sports context, are the basis to master these complex challenges.

Focus Areas
Together with relevant experts and collaborating teams, which can either be found within FIS, within NSAs, in the sports-industry, or at selected universities and partner-organizations such as IOC / AIOWF, all AHU-activities are organized within three main pillars to manage the complexity:

  • Athlete-related topics (e.g. preventative testing and training)

  • Equipment-related topics (e.g. protective-gear)

  • Framework-related topics (e.g. course design)

Measures
Findings and results related to potential health-protection or risk-management-strategies should lead to appropriate implementation. This can be knowledge dissemination such as information and education, recommendation, regulation, technical innovation, or a combination of these possibilities.

FIS athletes can find further information on the Athletes' Resource Page.
