With the past FIS World Ski Championships, the elections for the FIS Athletes Commission 2019 - 2021 have taken place. A male and a female representative have been elected in each World Cup discipline and with the development of Ladies’ Nordic Combined progressing at impressive speed, a female Nordic Combined representative has been added to the group for the first time.

Norway’s Mari Leinan Lund will be the first woman to represent Nordic Combined in the FIS Athletes Commission 2019 - 2021.

“I’m looking forward to my first meeting in FIS. It sounds very exciting, and I’m glad that I’ve gotten this opportunity. My motivation to participate in the athlete’s commission is to get a new vision on how Nordic Combined functions as a sport: not only through an athlete’s eyes but also from the outside and to use this knowledge to help inspire other young women to start with Nordic Combined”, Leinan Lund said after the election. “It’s fun to be the first-ever Ladies’ Nordic Combined representative, and the trust from the other girls means a lot to me.”

On the men’s side, Ilkka Herola (FIN) will succeed France’s Maxime Laheurte, who stepped down from the Commission after serving for two terms.

Herola: “My motivation as a representative is to deliver and try to push for the athletes' wishes and ideas. It's also interesting to take part in the organisation beside other athletes and disciplines. I suppose it will be a great opportunity to widen my way of thinking.“

The mission of the FIS Athletes' Commission is to represent the voice and interests of the athletes by engaging in the decision-making processes within the FIS organisation and to empower athletes through the communication of information.

The election results have to be confirmed by the FIS Council at its next Meeting on 2nd June 2019 in Catvat-Dubrovnik (CRO), and therefore Leinan Lund and Herola are provisionally elected as members of the FIS Athletes’ Commission for the term 2019-2021.
