Austrian veteran Bernhard Gruber will not return to competition action in the season 2019/20. In a statement release by the Austrian Ski Association today, Gruber cites a gastrointestinal infection, which he caught right before the season start plus the flu, which he contracted last week.

“It could not have gone worse than this winter, I was just so unlucky with illnesses and infections. I would love to compete in the rest of the events this winter but my body is forcing me to rest and end the season. The last remnants of November’s gastrointestinal infection slowed me down until recently and after not being on top of my game for the entire season, I caught the flu last week”, the 37-year-old said.

“This is definitely too much. I can’t even think about training and competition at the moment. I will take the time to rest and recover now, so that I can begin training for the next season in a relaxed way and fully fit and recovered. I wish the best of luck to my teammates for the rest of the winter.”
