Following Bernhard Gruber’s health troubles this winter and his memorably tough team event race in Oberstdorf (GER), the 37-year old Austrian underwent a cardiac catheter examination this Tuesday to address the pains and breathing troubles he  felt in his chest on exertion for a while now.

The examination resulted in the diagnosis of a constriction of a coronary blood vessel. Gruber underwent surgery at the Kardinal Schwarzenberg Klinikum in Schwarzach, Austria, to have a so-called stent implant placed to keep the blood vessel open from now on. The surgery went well and Gruber will most likely be allowed to leave the hospital tomorrow.
