Warm temperatures and a lack of snow in mid-Europe have forced the organisers of the upcoming FIS Nordic Combined Continental Cup to become creative and work together with their colleagues in fellow German Organising Committees.

While the ski jumping portion of two Individual Gundersen events will be held in Klingenthal in conjunction with the FIS Ski Jumping Continental Cup, the cross-country races will be held at FIS Nordic Combined Summer Grand Prix venue Oberhof in Thuringia. The Rennsteigarena in Oberhof is still prepared from a recent Biathlon World Cup.

“Unfortunately, there is no snow to prepare a cross-country track in Klingenthal. To still enable the Nordic Combined athletes to have their competitions, we contacted our fellow ski friends in Oberhof. We will now host the cross-country races at the Rennsteigarena there”, Kai Laukner of the Klingenthal OC explains.

To enable this kind of setup, the programme had to be changed from three to two events with the Mass Start being cancelled.

On Friday, the athletes will have ski jumping training and one competition round which counts for Sunday’s event. On Saturday morning, the 60 athletes from 13 nations will be doing their second competition jump before the entire group will drive to Oberhof to have their cross-country race in the evening. A second race, based on Friday’s competition round will take place in Oberhof on Sunday morning.
