Despite intensive preparations and considerable progress that was already made to host the Viessmann FIS Nordic Combined World Cup finals planned for the 14th and 15th of March, unfortunately Schonach (GER) had to cancel its event this season due to warm weather and lack of snow.

Snow Controller Joachim Bruder visited the site today together with Major Jörg Frey but had to conclude that the current snow conditions are not sufficient anymore to host the events and that no more reserves are available.

In the past two days, storms and warm weather had hit the region and took away most of the snow on the well-prepard venue. It also melted the organiser’s depots of artificial snow and  caused considerable damage in the cross-country stadium.

“Unfortunately, we have no other choice but to cancel”, Major Jörg Frey said. “The warm temperatures and unfavourable forecasts do not show any improvements of the situation in the next days.” He added: “We hope that we will be able to return to hosting the finals in the next year and continue the good cooperation with FIS, the German Ski Association and our partners and sponsors.”

FIS is currently checking if a replacement of the competitions will be possible and will inform about a possible replacement by the end of the week.
