Also the Nordic Combined season 2019/20 will end with a glamorous night to honour the best of the best: the Nordic Combined Awards will be back for their fifth edition.

As in recent years, a competent jury will be in charge of voting for the best performances in four categories:

Athlete of the Year - male and female
Honoured will be the athlete showing the most stable high-level performances during the whole season, the most complete Nordic Combined athlete.

Last year, shooting stars Jarl Magnus Riiber (NOR) and Tara Geragthy-Moats (USA) swept the category prizes with unanimous voting results.

Rookie of the Year
Honoured will be the best young athlete (ideally U21, max U23) who is on his first complete World Cup season (started in 80% of the events or more). Cannot go to the same athlete twice.

Austria’s Johannes Lamparter has been the last athlete to be awarded this prize.

Moment of the Year
Honoured will be the athlete(s) involved in the most memorable Nordic Combined moment of the season, be it amazing, funny, incredible, sad.

The moment in which Ilkka Herola & Eero Hirvonen ended an almost ten year streak without a victory for Finnish team in Lahti was chosen as the moment of the year 2018/19.

Coach of the Year
Honoured will be the head coach, ski jumping or cross-country coach of the season. A team of multiple coaches can also be recipients of the award.

The Austrian team continued to win in 2019 with Christoph Eugen / Christoph Bieler / Jochen Strobl taking the award for their coaching achievements.

Other awards like a “Fairplay Award” or the “Unluckiest Athlete of the Year” might be handed out, depending on what happens during the 2019/20 winter.

The Jury

Journalists on the jury were handpicked for their knowledge of Nordic Combined and include Erik Roos from Germany’s sports news agency Sportinformationsdienst (SID), Jiji Press’s Saho Kobayashi, Eurosport Spain commentator José Manuel Tallada, FondoItalia’s Paolo Romano, ORF commentator Anton Oberndorfer, NRK commentator and Nordic Combined legend Fred Børre Lundberg, Swedish Eurosport commentator Marit Stub Nybelius and Nordic Magazine’s Jerome Martinet. As in recent years, German Eurosport commentator Roman Knoblauch will take over the role of jury spokesperson.

Same as last year, the audience will get to vote for their favourites as well. The majority of the audience votes in each category will count as one additional vote in addition to the media votes and might prove the decisive factor.

Award Ceremony

The Nordic Combined Award Ceremony will take place in conjunction with the Viessmann FIS Nordic Combined World Cup finals in Schonach (GER). As in recent years, FIS and the local Organising Committee invite teams, athletes, fans and the general public to the “Haus des Gastes” in Schonach on the 15th of March, 19:00.
