OPA Games take place in Hinterzarten

A small but motivated starting field from Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Slovenia was on start for the OPA Games 2020 which took place in Hinterzarten Germany. 12 girls and 19 boys born 2006 to 2008 were on start in one Individual Gundersen event and a team event each per gender.

Nathalie Armbruster from Germany was the winner in the women’s Individual Gundersen HS 77, 2 km event. Starting from the second place, she won the race with a gap of 40.2 seconds on her teammate Anna-Fay Scharfenberg, who had been in the lead after the ski jumping part. Clara Mentil from Austria was third (+0:55).

In the boys’ event, the win went to Austria: David Liegl crossed the finish line 32.3 seconds ahead of Gregor Kadivec (SLO). Julius Borgenheimer claimed the bronze, +40.7 after Liegl after 3 km of roller-skiing.

Liegl also led the Austrian team to the win in the men’s team event. Him, David Gferer, Fabian Johann Trausnitz and Lukas Mühlbacher crossed the finish line 30.7 seconds ahead of the runners-up from Germany I (Borgenheimer, Unger, Stephan and Terei). Team Slovenia (Bregar, Janhar, Remic and Kadivec) was third with +49.5.

In the women’s team event Germany triumphed with its two teams taking gold and silver. Katrin Sofie Fischer, Anna-Fay Scharfenberg and Nathalie Armbuster claimed gold, while Färber, Strümpfel and Häckel were rewarded with silver +1:12.2 later. Bronze went to Team Austria (Gredler, Schmidt, Mentil), +2:01.9 after the winners.
