Double victory for Germany in Oberhof

Johannes Rydzek from Germany won the second Individual Gundersen competition in Oberhof/Germany in rainy conditions today. The World Champion from Lahti reached the finish line ahead of his team mate Vinzenz Geiger and Ilkka Herola from Finland.

After SKi Jumping on the Kanzlersgrund HS140, Matteo Baud from France took the lead with the second furthest jump of the day, landing at 132 meters. 128.1 points made him the first one on the roller ski course this afternoon in Steinbach-Hallenberg.

Rank 2 went to the bearer of the blue BIB Mario Seidl. The Austrian, who placed second in the competition yesterday, reached the furthest jump of the day with 135 meters (124.4 pts) and started with a 15 second backlog on the French. 
3 seconds after him, fellow Austrian Lukas Greiderer (129 mts, 123.7 pts) went on the 10 km course.

Yesterdays winner, Ilkka Herola from Finland, placed 5th after the Ski Jumping (128 mts, 120.6 pts) and had a 30 second backlog on leader Baud, who could not keep up with the high pace of the pursuers. 
Soon a large leading group formed of which the leader changed constantly on the wet course.

Going into the last meters of the race Rydzek, Geiger and Herola worked together and managed to break away several seconds. During a strong final sprint yesterdays winner Herola (+3.2 sec) had to tear off from the two Germans who made the victory up themselves. Although dealing with a broken pole, Geiger crossed the finish line only 0.2 seconds after Rydzek, securing a double home-victory for Germany.
