Traditionally, the Russian Nordic Combined athletes take part in a big national event in mid-September.

Once again, the National Championships were hosted by the Olympic complex in Sochi, where three competitions took place: One each for men and women on the normal hill, as well as a large hill competition for the male athletes.

The first event took place on Thursday in rainy conditions.

Anastasia Goncharova was the best among the women, although she had missed the Summer Grand Prix competitions in favor of preparing for the winter season. The 22 year-old placed fourth after Ski Jumping and was the fastest athlete on the course, becoming the new Russian National Champion. Svetlana Gladikova (+22.7 sec) came in second, ahead of Alexandra Glazunova (+1.0 min) on rank three.

Olga Aristova and Stefaniya Nadymova, who were on first and third place after Ski Jumping, didn't take part in the roller ski race.

At his first competition this season, Samir Mastiev, whom also didn't take part in the Summer Grand Prix, won the Men’s National Championships on the normal hill. Vyacheslav Barkov (+25.7 sec) reached rank two, Vitaly Sharshavin (+1.12 min) came in third. Alexander Kolganov (+2:21 min), who was in the lead after Ski Jumping, couldn’t keep up with the high pace on the course and finished on a 7th place.
Due to injuries and the following recovery period, Vitaly Ivanov and Ernest Yahin both didn’t take part in the Sochi events.

The Men’s large hill competition followed on Saturday. Again, Samir Mastiev took the Russian title, ahead of Timofey Borisov, who was in the lead after Ski Jumping. After being the first one on the roller ski course, Borisov couldn’t keep up with Marievs high pace and lost almost half a minute to the winner. Rank three went to the NH vice-champion Vyacheslav Barkov.
