Overall World Cup victory for Jarl Magnus Riiber

Jarl Magnus Riiber is the winner of the final World Cup in Schonach (GER) and also defended his Overall World Cup lead.
Ryota Yamamoto was in the lead after the Ski Jumping competition in Schonach (GER) today with a new hill record.
The Japanase jumped not only the furthest distance of the day but also set a new hill record on the Langenwald HS 100 with 11 meters (152.1 pts) in the morning and took the lead. Therefore, he was the first one to start into the 10 km race at the Wittenbachtal track this afternoon.
Rank 2 after jumping went to Overall World Cup leader Jarl Magnus Riiber from Norway, who landed at 107.5 meters (151.1 pts) and will go into the course only 4 seconds after the Japanese.
Riibers biggest opponent in the Overall World Cup fight Johannes Lamparter (100 mts, 144.2 pts) placed third with a 32 second backlog to the leader.
With a lead of only 1 point, the fight for not only today’s victory but especially the overall World Cup is on. Lamparter, known for his strong skiing skills wanted to do everything in his power today to place ahead of top favorite Riiber.
Riiber caught up to Yamamoto already after the first kilometer and took the lead.
Lamparter showed a strong performance on skis today, reducing the gap to the Norwegian to 20 sec after 2 km.
He caught up with Yamamoto at the 3.7 km mark, with a 22.5 sec distance to Riiber, who was trying to safe some strength on the difficult course.
Lamparter faught hard and went into the final lap of the season only 4.8 sec behind Riiber, constantly reducing the distance. He caught up to the Norwegian at the 8.7 km mark and a tough fight for not only the day victory but also the Overall World Cup ranking could be expected.
The Austrian took the lead at 9.5 km before Riiber ignited his final turbo and dropped Lamparter down the home stretch who had lost a lot of strength in the chase. The Norwegian secured today’s win and the Overall World Cup by crossing the finish line 4.2 seconds ahead of of the young Austrian.
While the unbelievably exciting battle for victory was raging at the top, Vinzenz Geiger and Joergen Graabak, the newly crowned Olympic champions, fought from behind.
In a tight finish sprint, Geiger (+5.1 sec) narrowly defeated Graabak (+5.2 sec) at the end and completed the podium on rank 3.
