Herola wins first GP in Oberhof

Ilkka Herola from Finland is the winner of the first Men’s Individual Gundersen of the FIS Summer Grand Prix in Oberhof/Germany today.

The 26 year-old was ranked 4th after Ski Jumping and finished his competition with a strong performance on the race course.

54 athletes started in the Individual Gundersen on the Kanzlergrund HS140 in sunshine and dry conditions.

With a jump on 136 meters and 128.1 points Mario Seidl won the competition and was the first one to start into 10 km roller ski race in Steinbach-Hallenberg.

Terence Weber (123.1 pts) from Germany took the second place on the hill and followed Seidl with a 20 second backlog, after his jump on 129 meters. The third place in Ski Jumping  was taken by Manuel Einkemmer (122.8 pts) , also from Austria. With 127 meters he started with a 21 second backlog to Seidl in the course.

During a four-man leading group formed with Ilkka Herola, Terence Weber from Germany, Seidl and Manuel Einkemmer (Austria). Short before the finish, Weber and Einkemmer could not keep up with the high pace of Seidl and Herola who went into the finish sprint togeteher. Despite a broken pole by Seidl at the last bend, Herola only won the finish sprint with a tiny margin of 0.1 seconds.
