Team Germany 1 is the winner of today’s Team Sprint Competition in Lahti (FIN).

After the Ski Jumping competition Austria had a double-lead, but fell back to rank 4 and 5 in the end.

In foggy conditions at the HS 130, Austria showed a strong team performance this morning.
Austria 1 (257.7 pts) took the victory of the Ski Jumping round with Stefan Rettenegger 128 meters, while his team mate Johannes Lamparter jumped 125.5 meters, securing the lead.

Rank 2 was taken by Austria 2, with Lukas Greiderer (125 m) and Franz-Josef Rehrl (126 m), who collected a total of 253 points and started the race only 6 seconds after their fellow countrymen.
Norway 1 with Joergen Graabak (121.5 m) and Jarl Magnus Riiber (128  m) placed third, 12 seconds behind the leaders.

With 7 teams starting the 2x7.5km race within the first minute, a tight fight for the podium could be expected.

While Rettenegger tried to defend the lead for Austria 1, Graabak rushed up from behind and overtook Rehrl (Austria 2) on the first lap. As the leader, he handed over to Jarl Magnus Riiber, who went through the second lap of the race together with Greiderer (+0.4 sec) and Lamparter (+0.4 sec).

Meanwhile, Germany 1 and France 1 in particular showed a strong performance and constantly worked their way forward, so that after 6km five teams formed the leading group with a gap of only 2 seconds.

France around Matteo Baud and Laurent Muhlethaler continuously fought their way forward, while the Austrians could no longer keep up with the high pace and fell back after 13.5 km.

Julian Schmid handed over to Vinzenz Geiger as the leader, who went into the last lap ahead of Riiber and Muhlethaler.

It all came down to an exciting finish sprint between the German and the Norwegian, which the strong sprinter Geiger narrowly won.

Riiber (+0.6 sec) took second place for Norway, while Muhlethaler (+5.5 sec) took third place for France.

With today’s victory Germany expended its lead in the Nations Cup ranking.
