Ramsau (AUT): Geiger claims 10th World Cup victory

Vinzenz Geiger is the winner of the last World Cup competition of the year 2022.
Jarl Magnus Riiber was already in the lead after the Ski Jumping round on the WM-Schanze HS98 on the second day in Ramsau (AUT).
The Norwegian jumped 97 meters, collecting 138.8 points, and was therefore the first one on the 10 km cross-country course in the afternoon.
Rank 2 after jumping went to Ryota Yamamoto from Japan, who landed at 94 meters (136 pts) and went into the course 11 seconds after the Overall World Cup leader.
Austrian Franz-Josef Rehrl reached the furthest distance of the day with 98 meters (129 pts) and placed third, 39 seconds behind the Norwegian.
With 11 athletes starting within the first minute, a tight fight for the podium could be expected.
While Yamamoto couldn’t keep up with the high speed of the leader and fell back already during the first round, the pursuer group, lead by Vinzenz Geiger (+25 sec) after 5 km put a lot of pressure on the current Overall World Cup leader in the front.
With the strong skiers Joergen Graabak and Jens Luraas Oftebro from Norway as well as Austrian Johannes Lamparter working together, Riiber had no chance and finally lost his lead on the steepest climb of the difficult course.
Geiger took over the lead, closely followed by Riiber (+0.2 sec), Lamparter (+0.3 sec), Graabak (+0.5 sec) and Oftebro (+0.8 sec) at the 7.5 km mark.
In the last lap, Geiger managed to pull away from his pursuers and secured his 10th Individual World Cup victory with a 5.0 second lead.
In a tight finish sprint, Lamparter prevailed against the defeated Riiber (+6.1 sec) on home soil and took second place, while the Norwegian defended his yellow bib in 3rd place.
