SGP: Rehrl takes yellow bib from Herola

Franz-Josef Rehrl is the winner of today’s Individual competition in Oberstdorf (GER) and the new leader of the FIS Summer Grand Prix.

Ryota Yamamoto was in the lead after the Ski Jumping competition on Oberstdorfs HS106 this evening with the furthest jump of the day on 133.5 meters (158.6 pts).

In atmospheric floodlight the Japanese, who’s the current owner of the blue bib as Best Jumper, went into the 10 km rollerski race through Oberstdorf, with a 15 second lead.

The second rank after jumping went to Franz-Josef Rehrl from Austria, who also landed at 133.5 meters and collected 154.8 pts.

Yellow bib owner Ilkka Herola reached 126.5 meters in the Audi Arena and therefore went into the race 1:15 minutes behind Yamamoto.

The Japanese wasn’t able to defend his lead against Rehrl, who closed the gap already in the first lap. While the Austrian took over the lead, Yamamoto stayed only 0.6 sec behind him, until the 3.5 km mark. 
Meanwhile, overall Summer Grand Prix leader Ilkka Herola started a strong catch-up race. 
The Finn reduced the distance to the leaders to 46.7 seconds at the second timekeeping, sharing the work with Julian Schmid (+47.2 sec) from Germany. 
But he couldn’t keep his good position until the end, falling back on 5th place (+56.1 sec), Herola also lost the lead in the overall Summer Grand Prix ranking.

During the last lap, Rehrl managed to pull away from Yamamoto and reached the finish line 31.9 seconds before the Japanese on rank two. 
Eero Hirvonen, 9th after jumping with a 1:53 min distance, impressed with a great performance and secured the 3rd place, 38.4 seconds after Rehrl.
