On Friday 30th September the members of the Nordic Combined Committee discussed the main points in preparation for the next season at the FIS autumn meetings in Zurich.
In addition to an update by IOC representatives, important rule proposals for the coming World Cup season were presented.

IOC Update

Two representatives of the International Olympic Committee, Sports Director Kit McConnell and IOC Associate Director, Winter and Recognised Sports and IF Relations Irina Gladkikh, attended the Nordic Combined Committee meeting to present important indicators in the decision-making process as well as program principles for Olympic disciplines. In this context, Nordic Combined was assured the full support of IOC on the way to the Olympic Winter Games 2030.

2022/23 Calendars

All calendars for the season 2022/23 were confirmed, including a new World Cup highlight. The German Ski Association applied for a “German Trophy”, that will include a separate overall ranking for all World Cup events taking place in Germany.
The detailed rules will be announced before the start of the season.

Rules & format update

The new measurement method for determining body height, announced in May 2022, was successfully tested over the summer.
Nordic Combined and Ski Jumping thus continue to follow the same measurement rules.

Additionally, a new competition format will be tested as part of the Continental Cup.

The "Super Sprint" is held on a course with a maximum length of 800 meters and begins, similar to a Mass Start, with the cross-country part before heading to the Ski Jumping hill.

The athletes start in heats and fight their way from quarterfinals to finals, on the basis of which the points for the subsequent jumping competition are then calculated. The test event will take place in February 2023 in Rena (NOR).

Nations supporting nations

In order to guarantee more podium diversity in the future, a “Nations Supporting Nations concept” program will start this season, in which the five strongest nations support the others in joint training camps and in the exchange of knowledge and ideas.
