Otepää (EST): Hansen secures Mass Start victory

Gyda Westvold Hansen is the winner of the women’s first and only Mass Start of this FIS Nordic Combined World Cup season that took place in Otepää (EST) today.
Her Norwegian team mate Ida Marie Hagen was in the lead after the Cross-Country race in the afternoon, that started with the traditional starting gun shot.
All 22 athletes from 9 nations, led by the top 3 of the Overall World Cup, went together in the 5 km course in Otepää (EST).
Hagen took the lead from the start and defended it until the finish line.
Only Nathalie Armbruster and Gyda Westvold Hansen were able to follow her beneath Otepääs blue sky.
After 2.5km they were only 0.4 seconds behind the Overall World Cup leader from Norway, but were no longer able to keep up in the last lap.
Hagen confidently turned into the home straight first, while Hansen (+10.9 sec) and Armbruster (+11.4 sec) delivered an exciting sprint for second and third position.
The young Finn Lumia Nurmela celebrated her World Cup debut and came 4th in the race, +28.9 seconds behind the winner.
In an exciting Ski Jumping competition, Hansen secured the victory with the furthest jump of the day on 92.5 meters and a total of 129 points.
Rank 2 went to Hagen, who reached 92 meters (113.4 pts), while Mari Leinan Lund (92 m, 110 pts) completed the Norwegian podium swipe on third place.
