Ramsau (AUT): 20th World Cup victory for Hansen, Korhonen places 3rd

A milestone-filled day in Ramsau (AUT)!

While Gyda Westvold Hansen secured her 20th World Cup victory, 16-year-old Minja Korhonen reached the first World Cup podium of her career.

Due to strong wind at the WM-Schanze HS98 in Ramsau (AUT) this morning, the Ski Jumping competition of the Nordic Combined women’s Individual Gundersen had to be cancelled. 
Therefore, the results of the Provisional Competition Round were used for the 5km cross-country race this afternoon.

Norwegian Gyda Westvold Hansen took the victory with 92 meters and a total of 117 points. 
Rank 2 was taken by Jenny Nowak from Germany with 87 meters and 110.5 points, while Finn Minja Korhonen (88.5 mts, 110.4 pts) placed third. They both went into the race 26 seconds after Hansen.

With strong skiers Ida Marie Hagen from Norway (+32 sec), Lena Brocard from France (+50 sec) and Japanese Haruka Kasai (+54 sec) a tight fight for the podium could be expected.

Hagen caught up to Nowak and Korhonen already on the first kilometer and was only 22.9 sec behind Hansen at the 2.5km intermediate. 
Nowak (+1:11.4 min) and Korhonen (+1:11.9 min) went through the race together, but falling further back second by second. 
Hansen ran a lonely race at the top, while the snowfall picked up, so that the Norwegian had to work hard to keep her strong team mate at a distance. 
Hagen was only 20.1 sec behind after 3.7 km, but couldn’t close the gap, so that Hansen confidently secured her 20th World Cup victory.  
With a first place in Ski Jumping and the fastest skiing time, the exceptional Norwegian also reached a milestone that has never been achieved in Nordic Combined before.

Hagen took second place, falling back during the last kilometers to 42 sec, while Minja Korhonen managed to pull away from Nowak, reaching her first World Cup podium on third place, 1:41.2 min behind Hansen.
