The World Cup opener last weekend in Wisla (POL) was an event with ups and downs for the Austrian ski jumpers. After their third place in Saturday's team competition, the Austrians showed a disappointing performance in the individual event on Sunday with their best, Daniel Huber, only in 18th.
"Of course every one of us can jump better than we did in Poland. We have now analyzed the jumps there and I'm confident that we are well prepared for Kuusamo. There we have to attack and remain relaxed at the same time. I personally gained self-confidence by my second jump in Wisla and now I want to build on that", said Huber, who was also the best Austrian ski jumper this past summer.
Before the second World Cup weekend of the season, head coach Andreas Felder is well aware of the fact that his team still has a lot of work to do in order to be among the very best again constantly with various athletes. "It's still a long way to go until we can fully keep up with the best in the World Cup again. We travel to Finland on Thursday and there we have to improve jump by jump. We want to continue making progress in training and in the competitions so we can be more self-confident. We a familiar with this situation from the summer competitions this year when we had no jumper in the final round in the opening event in Wisla. But we kept on fighting and got closer and that's exactly what we will try now in winter as well."
