Austria wins both team events at Junior Worlds

The Junior World Championships in Lahti (FIN) ended for the ski jumpers on Friday with the two team competitions, in both of which Austria proved to be unbeatable.

After the 1-2 finish in the individual competition, the Austrian men could celebrate another gold medal today. The new Junior World Champion Niklas Bachlinger, individual silver medalist David Haaten, Daniel Tschofenig, and Elias Medwed won the title with a score of 986.2 points. 19-year-old Elias Medwed, seventh in the individual competition, was the best jump in today's event with 93 m and 98 m and 258.2 points.

The silver medal went to Slovenia, represented by Zak Mogel, Jan Bombek, Rok Masle, and Jernej Presecnik, with 914.7 points. The surprise of the day was provided by the Russians Ilya Mankov, Maksim Kolobov, Danil Sadreev, and Mikhail Purtov, who claimed the bronze medal, with especially convincing performances by Sadreev and Purtov.

Only 1.4 points behind Russia, the Norwegians Iver Olaussen, Adrian Thon Gundersrud, Benjamin Oestvold, and Bendik Jakobsen Heggli narrowly missed the podium this afternoon. 
France (5th), Japan (6th), Italy (7th), and Germany (8th) also qualified for the final round.

Results Men

The women's team competition a little bit later was also dominated by the Austrians. After they remained without a medal in the individual competition, Hannah Wiegele, Vanessa Moharitsch, Julia Muehlbacher, and Lisa Eder claimed the gold medal on Friday with their total of 883.6 points.

As in the men's competition, the other two spots on the podium went to Russia and Slovenia, but this time in reverse order. Anna Shpyneva, Aleksandra Barantceva, Anastasiia Subbotina, and Irma Makhinia took silver for Russia with 828.7 points. The Slovenes, Nika Prevc, Nika Vetrih, Jerneja Repinc Zupancic, and Jerneja Brecl won the bronze medal with 818.0 points.

The fourth place went to Japan, followed by Germany, Poland, Norway, and Italy.
