Halvor Egner Granerud takes overall World Cup title

This winter's best ski jumper can not take part in the final two competitions of the World Championships in Oberstdorf due to a positive Covid-19 test, but after the FIS announced the new World Cup calendar for the rest of the season today, he has already secured the overall World Cup title.

Halvor Egner Granerud now leads the World Cup with 1544 points, followed by Markus Eisenbichler (1018 points). There are only three more individual competitions to go, so a maximum of 300 points can still be scored by an athlete.

It's an unusual, but also telling, situation that lead to this early decision in the Ski Jumping overall World Cup. After his positive test, Halvor Egner Granerud is currently in quarantine and can't fight for medals at the WSC, but at the same time, he can celebrate the overall World Cup title.

Due to the cancellation of the RAW AIR Tour, caused by Covid-19 restrictions, there are not, as originally planned, six individual competitions left on the calendar for the ski jumpers, but only three (including an additional competition in Planica).
This means that Granerud can now celebrate the biggest success of his career. Before the season started, Granerud's goal was the win the overall World Cup, with a total of eleven wins this season, he was the outstanding athlete of the winter.
