COC-M: David Siegel wins premiere event in China

This weekend the Continental Cup starts its 2021/22 season, and it does so with a special premiere. The two competitions on Saturday and Sunday are held on the brand-new Olympic hill in Zhangjiakou (CHN).

The first win on the HS 140, where the Olympic champion of the 2022 Beijing Winter Games will be crowned in February, went to Germany's David Siegel. The 25-year-old laid the foundation for his ninth win in the COC with the best jump of the round with 131 m, he could then defend this leading position with his second jump of 129.5 m and his total of 251.1 points.

Ulrich Wohlgenannt of Austria jumped on 127 m in the first round and could move up from fifth to second overall with 134 m in the final round and 247.3 points. The third place went to his teammate Stefan Rainer with 127.5 m and 133 m (244.0 points).

Not only the three spots on the podium on Saturday evening local time went to jumpers of Germany and Austria, but also all the other places in the Top 10 were divided among these two nations. With Philipp Raimund and Martin Hamann, who posted the longest jump of the day with 135.5 m, two Germans came in fourth and fifth.

They were followed by the four Austrian jumpers Thomas Lackner (6th), Janni Reisenauer (7th), Maximilian Ortner (8th), and David Haagen (9th). The places ten and eleven went to Germany with Felix Hoffmann and Moritz Baer.
The best jumper, who was not from either Germany or Austria today was Sabirzhan Muminov of Kazakhstan in twelfth.

The second competition in Zhangjiakou starts at 7:30 am CET (2:30 pm LOC) on Sunday.
