Severin Freund, one of the most successful German ski jumpers, has officially ended his career at the World Cup final in Planica (SLO).

"Of course, there comes a point when you dream of certain things that you want to achieve, but I would have never expected that so many beautiful things will happen. Even if there were difficult times as well, I can say today that it was absolutely perfect", the 33-year-old, who has been struggling with serious injuries in the past years, said right after his final jump on Sunday in Planica.

Severin Freund was competing in the World Cup since 2007. In a total of 250 World Cup events he finished on the podium 53 times and claimed 22 World Cup wins. In the 2014/15 season he won the overall World Cup title.
The Bavarian won eleven medals at World Championships, among them individual gold on the large hill in Falun 2015 and at the Ski Flying World Championships in Harrachov 2014. At the Olympic Games in Sochi 2014 he won gold with the German team.
