Dawid Kubacki dominates Grand Prix in Hinzenbach

Top favorite Dawid Kubacki of Poland won the FIS Grand Prix 2022 in Hinzenbach (AUT). Kubacki demonstrated his outstanding skills in both rounds today and came in ahead of Slovenia's Anze Lanisek and local hero Manuel Fettner.
With his outstanding performance, Kubacki even took some of the excitement out of an actually exciting competition, because behind Kubacki the athletes in places 2 - 7 were separated by only six points. Summer specialist Kubacki won the competition, which was held in perfect conditions, with a lead of about 20 points over second-placed Lanisek and Fettner in third.
"I like this hill. This win should not be overrated, but of course, I'm happy about it. I'm not really thinking about the overall title of the Grand Prix right now, I'm a guy who thinks about one jump after the other. It will be an exciting final next weekend in Klingenthal, my teammate Kamil Stoch also still has a chance to win and he likes the hill in Klingenthal a lot", Kubacki said. Before the final competition, Dawid Kubacki leads the overall ranking of the Grand Prix with 280 points, followed by Manuel Fettner (210 points) and Kamil Stoch (182 points).
Wellinger strong again
Andreas Wellinger could again show a convincing performance in Hinzenbach. The 27-year-old, who was fifth here last year, showed that he can jump very well on this hill in Hinzenbach. The crowd-favorite came in fourth and missed the podium by only 0.5 points.
Ren Nikaido, who won in Rasnov last weekend, confirmed this result with the fifth place today.
Zografski convinces
Vladimir Zografski, who started working with the Polish coach Grzegorz Sobczyk this summer, is currently jumping better than ever. After finishing third in Rasnov a week ago, the Bulgarian was sixth today. Zografski might be capable of achieving Top 10 results next winter.
Karl Geiger was seventh, Poland's Pawel Wasek and his teammate Kacper Juroszek came in eighth and ninth.
Emanuel Schmid disqualified
Emanuel Schmid, 19-year-old German youngster, and brother of Constantin Schmid was disqualified in his first-ever appearance on this international level because he wore a suit that was not compliant with the rules.
Kobayashi not competing after disqualification
Last winter's overall World Cup champion Ryoyu Kobayashi of Japan, was not able to compete today because he was disqualified in yesterday's qualification, also because of the suit.
The final of the FIS Grand Prix 2022 will be held in Klingenthal (GER) next weekend where the men and women will each have an individual competition and there will also be a mixed team event on Saturday.
