Patrick Gasienica died in tragic motorbike accident

US ski jumper Patrick Gasienica has died in a motorbike accident at the age of 24, the US Ski Association has announced.

The federation writes: "We are deeply saddened by the passing of Patrick Gasienica, an incredible athlete, teammate and human being. Our condolences go out to his family, friends and the entire ski jumping community."

"Shock", "nightmare", "unimaginable tragedy" - these are the words most often used by fans to comment on the news of the death of Patrick Gasienica, US ski jumper with Polish roots, who died in a motorbike accident. His teammates also addressed their painful words to their friend via social media.

- You were my true brother," Decker Dean wrote on Instagram. - Best teammate, best friend, one of the funniest guys I've ever met. Growing up we had the same dreams and the same passions. That brought us together and I will always cherish those moments. The first flights in Planica, competing in the Olympics, living in Europe nine months a year and trying to become the next Adam Malysz. That's what we've always said. It seems impossible to get over it and I am angry at the world, but I will always be grateful that I can call myself your friend and that I could have you by my side during this time. I will cherish all the smiles and memories we shared for the rest of my life. Every jump and every step I take is for you from now on. Rest in peace, my friend.

The tragically deceased 24-year-old Beijing Olympian was also given a farewell by the best American former ski jumper of recent years, Kevin Bickner: - Patrick, it is impossible to describe in words what I feel. Over the last 16 years you have not only been a great teammate on the hill, but also a close friend off the hill. Even though it hurts to say goodbye, I am grateful for the time we were able to spend together, travelling the world and working side by side to make our dreams come true. From childhood trips and pranks to the World Cup and the Olympics, you lived life to the fullest in just 24 short years. You were always the bravest person in the room and weren't afraid to live fast. You always inspired me. My sympathies go out to your family and loved ones who I know are suffering as much as I am. You had an impact on the whole community and will always be remembered. I will do my best to remember our good times, because I know that is what you would have wanted. Still, saying goodbye is painful and I will miss you Patch. Rest in peace, my friend. Until our next meeting.

Patrick Gasienica had competed on the US team at the Paking Olympics, then had his career interrupted after the 2021/22 Olympic season. In March of this year, he competed again at the Continental Cup in Iron Mountain (USA).
