Stroem wins second competition in Rasnov

Norwegian Anna Odine Stroem won the second women's ski jumping World Cup in Rasnov (ROU) on Saturday. Stroem won in only one round ahead of the two Austrians Eva Pinkelnig and Julia Muehlbacher. The previous day's winner Katharina Althaus finished in 22nd place.
The second competition of the women ski jumpers in Rasnov on Saturday was strongly influenced by the wind conditions with strong shifting winds. So the one scoring round lasted one hour and 38 minutes, which is about the time it normally takes to do two rounds.
In the end, Norway's Anna Odine Stroem celebrated her third World Cup victory overall. "It was a bit exhausting with the long waits at the top of the start, more mentally than physically. But we just had to wait until the conditions were right, that's part of it. But we had fun while we were waiting at the top and we were fooling around. During the waiting time, I simply resolved to jump well and that's what I did.
In such difficult, windy, conditions people usually get a bit unsure, I learnt that you just have to give it your all no matter what the conditions are, and that's what I did today and that's how I managed to win today," Stroem was pleased to say.
The 24-year-old is in third place in the overall World Cup standings with 1030 points after her success today.
Austria's Eva Pinklenig is still in the lead in the overall World Cup with now 1482 points ahead of Katharina Althaus (1202 points).
"Another podium, that's amazing. It was a very difficult competition, the track was not good at the end and the wind was difficult. But I'm extremly proud of myself that I managed to stay so cool because it was really difficult minutes for everyone at the top of the start. I am now really looking forward to the World Championships," said Eva Pinkelnig.
The 19-year-old Austrian Julia Muehlbacher was happy about her first World Cup podium.
"That was an incredible day today, I would never have imagined in my life that I would achieve my first World Cup podium today. It was very difficult to jump today with all the wind interruptions. Now I don't know what to say, I am absolutely overwhelmed.
Juliane Seyfahrt celebrated her best individual result in three years with fourth place (Rasnov on 26.2.2020). Ema Klinec, Thea Minyan Bjoerseth and Nika Prevc finished 5th-7th and Jacqueline Seifriedsberger, Yuka Seto and Lara Malsiner completed the top 10 in the last competition of the women's ski jumpers before the Nordic World Championships in Planica (SLO) start already early next week.
"It was actually an irregular competition today, it was no longer at the limit of the wind but actually already above it. Katharina made a good jump, but she didn't have a chance. She shouldn't worry about the result, the jump was ok," said DSV coach Maxi Mechler after the 22nd place of co-favourite Katharina Althaus.
