The new Beskydy-Tour as part of the Continental Cup with three competitions at three different venues this weekend started on Friday evening with an event in Szczyrk (POL).
The local heroes of Poland had the best start into this new tour. Aleksander Zniszczol took the win with jumps of 99 m and 100.5 m and a total of 250.8 points. "I didn't expect to win here today. I just wanted to do my best and that's what I did. In my opinion, the conditions were fair for every athlete. The wind was a problem during training and the trial round, but then the weather got better", said Zniszczol.
Only 0.5 points behind his teammate, Klemens Muranka, who won this summer's first two COC competitions early July, finished second with 97.5 m and 101 m. "I'm satisfied with my performance, the second place is a good result. It was quite hot today and I don't really like that, but in general I'm happy. I'm in good shape and I enjoy jumping."
The places three and four went to the team of Slovenia. Miran Zupancic, with 95.5 m fifth after the first round, jumped on 101.5 m in the final and came in third with 247.8 points. Ziga Jelar scored one point less than his teammate and finished fourth. "I'm satisfied with my performance, but I still made some mistakes. I'm happy that I was still able to stand on the podium, despite these mistakes", said Miran Zupancic.
Best athlete of the German Ski Association was Pius Paschke in fifth, behind Bartlomiej Klusek, who was the third-best Pole today in sixth, and Austria's Maximilian Steiner, Lukas Wagner achieved a good eighth place.
With a great second jump of 102 m, Italy's Alex Insam moved up from 24th to ninth in the final round. The longest jump of the day was shown by Martti Nomme with 105.5 m in the first round. The Estonian finished tenth this evening.
Klemens Muranka leads the overall ranking of the COC with his 280 points, followed by Miran Zupancic (172 points) and Rok Justin (125 points).
The next competition will take place in Wisla (POL) on Saturday at 7:00 pm CET.
