Monday Mix - June 8, 2020

Welcome back to your weekly dose of good vibes, expertly curated from the best of the internets over the past week by the team here at the magnificent Monday Mix. In a lot of ways it's feeling like life's getting back to normal in the world of shred, and whether we're talking about glacier laps in Kaunertaler or backyard PVC jib rigs in Guildford, there was plenty going down once again in the past week.

Not to be outdone, the Austrians just wrapped things up in Kaunertaler, with shred power-couple Anna Gasser and Clemens Millauer each dropping a hammer-filled clip today, just a couple of hours before we hit "Publish" on this here edition of the Mix...

But who says you need modern comforts like a "chairlift", or "professionally-shaped features" to have a good time in the springtime? Sometimes a few square metres of dirty snow, a couple sketchy PVC pipes, and a strong crew are all you need to make magic happen...

Our most recent #ClassicsLive poll wrapped up over the weekend, with the Istanbul 2014/15 big air World Cup taking top spot and set to go live this Wednesday. Belgian's finest Seppe Smits was the winner of the men's competition there in Turkey, and while we're hyped to revisit his performance from back in the day, we'd also love to see some clips from HIS time in Kaunertal over the past couple of weeks. Judging by the look on his face here, it's been going just swell for him...

Another week, another Matty Cox clip of Matty Cox doing Matty Cox things. That tweeeeeak...

Some very exciting news from the Japanese squad, who announced last week that the mindblowingly talented Takeru Otsuka is fully rehabbed from his knee injury and set to be back in the competition mix for next season. Which of course means that we once again get to sit back and marvel when the 19-year-old casually drops a bomb like this...

Let's switch gears to some SBX news for a minute, first off with Czech superstar Eva Samkova, who last week was bestowed with the title of "Student-Athlete of the Decade" by the International University Sports Federation (FISU)...

Next up we recommend you check out SBX Life's interview with reigning world champion in both SBX and SBX mixed-team competition, Mr. Mick Dierdorff of the USA. Always funny, always gracious...Mick's the man...

Looks like the French SBX squad is back on the boards in Val D'Isere. Mes amis, if any of you are reading this, now would be a GREAT time to shoot us a followcam shot if you happen to be running any heats out there...

We haven't seen much in the way of on-snow action from our alpine riders this spring, which is pretty understandable if you consider that it is springtime and you know how quickly rutted out a slushy slalom course gets. However, Benny Karl did make a little visit to the snowy heights of Austria last week, using pedal power to conquer the Grossglockner - the highest alpine road in Austria...

Also getting his reps in on the bike last week was Benny's teammate Alexander Payer, although it appears that his ride ended with a crash into a lake...while naked?

If you are still thirsty for some carving, you can always turn to Japanese dryslope technician Koyo Ishida and his endless astroturf arcing insanity...
