The 2026 Freeride World Tour kicks off this Thursday as the world’s top freeriders return to Tuc de Bacivèr, the iconic face of Baqueira Beret

  • Competition confirmed for this Thursday, January 15

  • Official venue: Tuc de Bacivèr, returning to the Tour for the first time since 2023

  • Dropping order: Snowboard Women, Snowboard Men, Ski Women, Ski Men

The FIS Freeride World Tour by Peak Performance is proud to announce that the Baqueira Beret Pro by Movistar is officially confirmed for Thursday, January 15, 2026. The world’s best freeride skiers and snowboarders will gather in Spain’s Pyrenees to launch the 2026 season on the legendary Tuc de Bacivèr face, a venue that hasn’t hosted competition since 2023.

Thursday has been selected as the optimal competition day. With no additional snowfall predicted in the coming days and no clear weather window ahead, Thursday presents the best conditions for running the event safely and with full visibility. In recent days, 80 centimeters of fresh snow fell across the Baqueira Beret resort, and conditions have now stabilized, offering a secure and promising snowpack for the riders.

Meanwhile, the resort is currently offering excellent conditions for all visitors, with 150 kilometers of terrain open and over 100 runs in operation, featuring snow depths between 70 and 100 centimeters of powder-quality snow on groomed terrain. Despite the anticipation of the competition, the weekend activities at the resort will go ahead as planned, including the Event Village and the Beret ski and snowboard test, which will feature more than 20 participating brands. In addition, the FWT Junior event is also confirmed for this weekend, further underlining Baqueira Beret’s continued commitment to all levels of freeride progression.

With strong local energy, and a technically diverse mountain face, all elements are in place for an explosive start to the season.

A return to Tuc de Bacivèr

The 2026 season opener will take place on Tuc de Bacivèr, a striking west-facing face with a summit elevation of 2,644 meters. Last used in 2023, this venue is renowned for its dynamic terrain and exceptional visibility, offering a compelling stage for both riders and spectators.

With a vertical drop of 424 meters and an average gradient of 40 degrees, Bacivèr provides the perfect mix of challenge and creativity. The left side of the face offers smoother lines and accessible entries, encouraging fluid, freestyle-inspired runs. Meanwhile, the right side presents steeper, more technical terrain designed to test even the most seasoned big-mountain riders.

Its west-facing orientation (unique on the FWT calendar) ensures excellent light for filming and judging, while the face’s proximity to the resort allows spectators to enjoy the action from remarkably close range. The combination of natural features, diverse terrain, and electric crowd energy makes Bacivèr one of the Tour’s most anticipated venues.

Beyond its physical features, Tuc de Bacivèr also holds emotional significance within the FWT community. During the last competition held here in 2023, Spanish freeride icon Aymar Navarro announced his retirement in front of a passionate home crowd, a defining moment that left a lasting mark on the sport and added a layer of emotional depth to the venue’s legacy. Bacivèr is more than a competition face; it’s a place where freeride history is made.
