Monday marked 250 days to go before the first medal event of the Montafon 2025 FIS Snowboard, Freestyle and Freeski World Championships, which are set to take over the renowned Austria resorts of Kuhtai and Silvretta Montafon from 06-21 March, 2027.

In anticipation of those upcoming World Championships some of Austria's finest snowboarders, freeskiers, and freestylers, along with local organisers and Austria Ski and Snowboard Federation officials, gathered in Montafon for a media meet and greet to mark the occasion.

Mario Stecher (ÖSV sports director): "A home World Championships offers our athletes the unique opportunity to fight for medals and World Championship titles in front of their local audience - this is motivation and incentive at the same time. At the same time, this major event is an excellent stage to present the dynamism and attractiveness of these sports to a broad international public and to set impulses for sports, tourism and the entire region.”

Christian Speckle (Project Manager Montafon 2027): "We have been working on this project for a long time, and in less than a year we will reach the finish line. The World Championships team is growing continuously and the project content is becoming more exciting every week, creating an unforgettable experience and presenting the Montafon as a stage for first-class sports.

Alessandro Hämmerle (2x SBX Olympic Gold Medallist): "The anticipation is great and the desire to get a top performance at the home World Cup gives me an additional boost of motivation. At the moment I am still very relaxed and until it goes back to snow, I still have some work ahead of me. But the thought of a 'medal at home' I already get goosebumps, that would be a mega add-on of my career. But I try not to put too much pressure on myself, but to approach the whole thing with a lot of joy.”

"With so many cool home events (in 2026/27), it won't be easy for me to stop. The highlight is of course the World Championships in Montafon. We haven't had an event here yet, but I've been there privately many times because it's a great ski area. Of course, this increases the motivation to perhaps stick to it for another year. If I am in top shape and feel good, then nothing stands in the way. But I won't force anything at this point in my career – in the end it will be a gut decision.”Anna Gasser (2x Olympic Snowboard Big Air gold medallist)

Jakob Dusek (Bakuriani 2023 SBX World Champion): "These media days alone show that there is much more attention behind a World Championships than in a World Cup race. I am very happy that the World Championships is taking place in Montafon. I feel incredibly comfortable and welcome here and have been able to ride there perfectly last year. When I drive into this valley, it feels like a second home.”

Michael Bitschnau (Managing Director Montafon Tourism): "The hosting of the FIS Snowboard, Freestyle and Freeski World Championships 2027 is a great honour for Montafon and at the same time a confirmation of our long-standing commitment to international winter sports. The 2027 World Championships marks another milestone in the history of Montafon's winter sports and is at the same time the largest winter sports event in the history of Vorarlberg. The World Championships underline the quality of our infrastructure, the close cooperation of all partners in the region and our claim to further develop tourism in a future-oriented manner. At the same time, they offer the opportunity to present Montafon to a worldwide audience as a modern winter sports destination and to create sustainable impulses for the region."

"With this opening event, the anticipation also increases in a big way, because it becomes once again more real that we have a World Championships in Austria. I am also happy that the whole Freeski World Cup circus comes to the Montafon and can ski with us. The goal is of course a medal, anything else would not be honest. But the focus must first be on a good preparation for the World Cup in order to be well prepared and confident to go to the home World Championships." Lara Wolf (Engadin 2025 Slopestyle World Championships silver medallist)

Halfpipe competition will lead things off at Montafon 2027, with Snowboard qualifications taking place on 06 March and Freeski on 07 March, with those halfpipe events taking place in Kuhtai.

Nordic Center Tschagguns will serve as the venue for Montafon 2027 Big Air events, Golm as the home of moguls, dual moguls, and aerials, Gargellen for Snowboard Alpine, Silvretta Montafon Grasjoch for Ski Cross and Snowboard Cross, and Silvretta Montafon Valisera for the Snowboard and Freeski Slopestyle competitions.
