Adverse weather leads to cancellation of Moguls competition at Waterville Valley
Jan 15, 2026·Freestyle
Unfortunately, Mother Nature was not on our side today. Despite fresh snowfall overnight and an encouraging start to the day, dense fog moved into the course area shortly after the beginning of the women’s qualification round, significantly reducing visibility.
As competition progressed, visibility continued to deteriorate, eventually covering large sections of the course. Given that judges must be able to clearly see each run from start to finish in order to ensure fair and accurate scoring, the conditions no longer met the required standards for safe and equitable competition.
Following an extended weather delay and careful evaluation of the conditions, the jury made the decision to cancel today’s event in the interest of athlete safety and fairness.
Updated program for Friday
As a result of today’s cancellation, the competition schedule for tomorrow has been adjusted. With this event marking the final competition ahead of the 2026 Olympic Winter Games, the jury has decided to proceed with a Moguls competition, replacing the originally scheduled Dual Moguls format.
The revised program for tomorrow is as follows:
Men’s Qualifications: 08:45
Women’s Qualifications: 11:45
Final Rounds: 14:30
We appreciate the patience and understanding of the athletes, teams, officials, and spectators as we adapt to challenging weather conditions. Further updates will be communicated as needed, and we look forward to delivering a successful and exciting competition under improved conditions.
