Sweden's 2022 Olympic moguls champion Walter Wallberg will miss the entire 2026/27 season as he takes an extended break from competition to recover from injuries and focus on prolonging his career.

The 26-year-old has struggled with injuries over the past two seasons, significantly limiting his appearances on the World Cup circuit. Despite those setbacks, Wallberg has continued to deliver strong performances whenever he has been able to compete.

During the 2025/26 Olympic season, Wallberg made just two World Cup starts, opening his campaign with a second-place finish in Ruka before placing 10th in Val St. Come in January.

He then arrived at the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic Winter Games with limited competition experience that winter but came close to adding another medal to the gold he won at Beijing 2022. Wallberg finished fourth in the men's moguls competition, narrowly missing the podium, before taking fifth place in the Olympic debut of dual moguls.

His results followed a similarly interrupted 2024/25 campaign, during which he recorded three World Cup podiums from just four starts, including victory in dual moguls in Bakuriani, Georgia.

Now, rather than continuing to compete through recurring physical setbacks, Wallberg has decided to take a longer-term approach to his recovery.

“I’ve matured a bit and am trying to make more long-term decisions. This is one of them, so I can keep going for longer and have a longer career,” Wallberg told Swedish media.

The decision means another season away from the World Cup circuit, but the Swedish star has made it clear that his competitive ambitions remain unchanged.

Winning the overall FIS Moguls World Cup title and competing at a fourth Olympic Winter Games remain his long-term goals as he looks to return to the sport at full strength.
